The remains were said to have been found after the family took home items they had won from the storage locker auction, Newshub television reported. Neighbors noticed a “bad smell” coming from the property shortly before police arrived, Stuff news agency reported. Police have confirmed they have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery in Manurewa, South Auckland, on Thursday. “From our investigations so far, we can advise that the occupants of the address are not believed to be involved in the incident,” said Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamuanaia Vaaelua. He added that police were providing support to the family following the discovery. “We appreciate there is significant public interest in what happened, however, given the nature of the discovery, there are still several inquiries to be made,” the detective said. Given the nature of the discovery, this may take some time.” He said there was no immediate danger to the public.
