Vladimir Putin’s propagandists have once again threatened to attack Britain, this time warning of missile attacks on Tower Bridge and the use of nuclear weapons against British troops helping NATO in Estonia. The threats are the latest outburst of anti-Western bile broadcast by state television in Moscow, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to falter. Senior MP Oleg Morozov claimed Boris Johnson was plotting with Kyiv to blow up Putin’s bridge linking annexed Crimea with the Russian mainland. Last week Ukrainian special forces destroyed an airbase in Crimea, sending shockwaves through Putin’s ranks as many fear further retaliation from their neighbors. Morozov claimed that Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko had discussed an alleged plot to destroy the bridge with the British. “The Crimean bridge from a military strategic point of view is similar to the Tower Bridge in London,” he said. “If the UK is discussing an attack on the Crimean bridge with Ukraine, why aren’t we instead discussing using Kalibr missiles to attack the Tower Bridge?” Propagandist TV presenter Yevgeny Popov, also an MP, agreed with his guest and colleague, adding that “for a full analogy” it should include Russia asking a third country for help to tear down Tower Bridge. Morozov replied: “Yes… all the British media would go crazy then. “They would say Kremlin propagandist Popov is discussing a hit in central London with a Chinese minister.” Elsewhere in the Russian media landscape, reservist Colonel Igor Korotchenko – editor-in-chief of Russia’s National Defense magazine – took aim at Western forces guarding the Baltic states from similar Russian incursions as launched in Ukraine.

British forces are currently in Estonia. He urged the use of tactical nuclear weapons if Russia felt threatened, even though NATO is a defensive alliance, dedicated to deterring attacks on its member states. “Where there are American, British, NATO garrisons, bases, where weapons systems are being developed that threaten us, aimed at St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, these are legitimate targets,” said the militant Korotchenko. “I repeat, legal targets. “I won’t talk about radioactive ash…but expect an answer that you’re guaranteed to get immediately and without any hesitation.” “I will repeat once again, in the conditions of the inequality of NATO, including the Baltic, limiting the Alliance after all this wave of political and military threats to our country, we can only and exclusively [base out actions] for tactical nuclear weapons… which should become a battlefield weapon. “It does not mean that we are threatening anyone with a strike in Helsinki or Tallinn, no, we do not and will not threaten the civilian population of any NATO country.” But the same was not the case with British, US and other NATIO military bases in those countries, he said.
