At approximately 8 a.m. today, Peel Police were called to do a “well-being check” at an apartment building at 25 Princess St., near the Streetsville GO Station.
Once inside the large, brick house, they made the gruesome discovery.
The victims were found with “obvious signs of trauma,” said Const. Mandeep Khatra told reporters on the scene early Tuesday afternoon.
“At this time, the investigation is in its early stages and we are unsure of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” he noted.
Khatra would only say the deceased lived in the area and there is no risk to public safety.
He did not say whether or not the two people found dead knew each other, what kind of relationship they may have had or if the suspect is dead.
However, friends told CTV News that a married couple with two grown children lived in the home.
No one is in custody at this time.
The Peel Regional Police Homicide Squad is handling the investigation. Officers spent the day canvassing the neighborhood, while forensics went in and out of the house gathering evidence. Late this afternoon, a black truck and a black SUV were towed from the rear of the property.
Those who knew and loved the deceased are trying to understand what has happened.
Several grieving friends of the couple stopped by the scene on Tuesday.
“They were my best friends. It’s shocking to me. I can’t believe this happened. I can’t believe it,” close family friend Halina Zygmunt told CTV News.
He said the dead were a “happy, nice couple”.
The tenants of a nearby apartment building said they were shocked to learn of the couple’s death.
Neighbor Steve Macgillivray said the dead man and woman were “very normal fun-loving people”.
“We got along with them and they were, you know, just part of our neighborhood. … This is all shocking to us. It’s just sinking in now,” he said.
“We didn’t see anything abnormal in their behavior.”
Another local resident named Karl Bousche worked with the couple at a transport company. Like many others, Bushe said he is “in shock” after hearing the news.
He said the dead were both “very friendly people” who were “well-known in the neighborhood” as they had a large dog that they walked every day.
Anyone who saw what happened or has more information is asked to contact Peel Police or Crime Stoppers.
