Physician assistant and TikToker Anne, who goes by @annethepa on TikTok, took to social media to share a video of herself comparing her children’s clothing sizes. Anne showed how there is a clear problem with toddler clothes, with girls’ clothes being measured as smaller than boys’ clothes, despite the label saying the same size or a smaller size. Anne’s video quickly garnered over 1.1 million views, prompting her to make multiple follow-up videos comparing children’s clothing at both Walmart and Target. The mom of two found that the issue remained the same regardless of the brand or store, prompting TikTokers to flood her comments section with fits of rage. Anne took to TikTok to share a video of herself comparing her children’s clothes and found that her son’s clothes were bigger than her daughters’, even though her son’s clothes were smaller The mom of two then set her sights on Walmart and Target stores where she compared the same size for boys and girls. Anne makes a shocking discovery and finds that the boys’ clothes are bigger despite being the same age “If anyone is wondering why girls have body image issues, these are my daughter’s shorts,” Anne says at the beginning of her video while holding out a pair of 3T shorts. On top of the 3T shorts, Anne placed her son’s nine-month-old shorts, revealing that both are identical in size despite the difference in the children’s ages. Showing it’s not just a one-off, Anne pulled out another set of shorts, this time her daughter’s 2T shorts and her son’s nine-month shorts. Again, Anna had the same result. The boys’ shorts were even a bit longer than the girls’. “It’s not okay,” Anne noted in her viral video. After receiving a few comments from users who claimed the size difference was because the clothes were “different brands”, Anne decided to show viewers the problem in real time. In a follow-up video, which has garnered over 1.6 million views, Anne went to Walmart this time to prove her findings. The mom of two grabbed three pairs of girls’ shorts, all sizes. Her next video showed the physician’s assistant at Target where she pulled out two girl’s and two boy’s shorts, both size 12 months Mom put the girl’s shorts on top of the boy’s shorts and found that “boys’ shorts are even longer than girls’ shorts” Anne then took out two t-shirts, one for boys and one for girls, both size 18 months, and pointed out how the boys’ shirt was wider and longer than the girls’ shirt, even though they were the same age.
How do boys’ clothes compare to girls’ clothes?
Anne compared her daughter’s size 3T shorts to her nine-month-old son’s shorts and found her daughter’s shorts to be smaller than her son’s clothes She then compared a size 2T and a nine-month-old pair of shorts and made the same discovery, finding that the boys’ shorts were again larger At Walmart, she compared a size 4T, 18 months, and three months, and found that each time the girls’ shorts were smaller and shorter than the boys’ shorts. Her last stop was Target where she compared a 12-month-old girl’s shorts and a 12-month-old boy’s size and found the girls’ shorts to be smaller. Anne took out a girls size 18 month shirt and a boys size 18 month shirt and found that the boys shirt was much longer and looser than the girls t-shirt
One pair was 4T, one was 18 months and the last was three months. While at Walmart, Anne made an even more shocking find and showed viewers how boys’ shorts grew in length as they got older while girls’ shorts didn’t. Anne then showed the clothes side by side, further pointing out how much longer the boys’ shorts were than the girls’ shorts, even though they were the same size. Her next video showed the physician’s assistant at Target where she pulled out two girl’s shorts and two boy’s, both size 12 months. Mom put the girls’ shorts on top of the boys’ shorts and found that “boys’ shorts are even longer than girls’ shorts.” She then pulled out two t-shirts, one boy and one girl, both size 18 months. He then showed how the boys’ shirt was much wider and longer than the girls’ shirt, even though they were the same age. She added that Target offers more “gender-neutral” clothing options and said parents should shop in the boys’ section if they’re looking for “longer” clothes and the girls’ section if they’re looking for “shorter” clothes. TikTokers were outraged by the mom’s discovery and took to her comments section to share their frustration. TikTok users were outraged in disbelief, with one user noting that she stopped shopping in the girls’ section “I have a girl in 4T, 1 girl in 12-18 months. When I fold laundry I have to look at the label with the shorts! They can wear each other most of the time,” said one user. Another user added: “As children, boys are no older! As an elementary teacher, I notice that girls are usually older than boys until around HS in many cases!’ One user said: “I stopped buying them shorts/pants from the girls section. The clothes are skin tight and super close.’ Another user commented: “The fact that there is little difference between 18 month and 4T girls!!!” “Why shouldn’t baby clothes be unisex, there has been absolutely no physical difference between them for quite some time,” wrote another user.
