Officers were called to the area of Wyandotte Street and Ouellette Avenue on Monday around 2:20 p.m. for a report of a person with a weapon.
“The guy was standing at the intersection, right here in the middle of the intersection and he had a knife. And he gave it up,” Wayne Craig, who witnessed the situation, told CTV News.
“At that point, you notice you were coming this way, two policemen came flying. As they came flying up, the children’s attention was drawn to the police officers and he raised the knife at them and was shot.”
Under provincial law, the Special Investigations Unit will investigate. Any witnesses and all information and inquiries should be directed to the SIU.

(Travis Fortnum/CTV News Windsor) An update from the SIU says officers were called to the area about a 70-year-old man who was holding a knife and threatening people. The SIU confirmed that there was an interaction between the man and the officers, where one officer deployed a directed energy weapon and another officer shot him. Paramedics took the man to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. Police say no officers were injured during the incident. The SIU continues to investigate and says it has assigned three investigators and three medical examiners to the case.
