“Based on examination and verification, which was conducted in compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of the California Government Code, Election Code and Code of Regulations, 520,050 signatures were found to be valid and 195,783 were found to be invalid,” Logan’s office said in Press release.
For the recall to qualify for the ballot, the petition required 566,857 valid signatures.
LOS ANGELES DA GEORGE GASCON RECALL ATTEMPT: ORGANIZERS SAY SUBMITTED THOUSANDS MORE NAMES THAN NEEDED
“[T]Therefore, the report does not meet the sufficiency requirements and no further action will be taken on the report,” the statement said.
Of the invalid signatures, more than 88,000 were not registered, 43,593 were duplicates, 32,187 were different addresses, 9,490 were signature mismatches, 7,344 were canceled, 5,374 were out-of-county addresses, while more than 9.0 were “underclassified.” “
“Grateful to move on from this attempted political power grab, rest assured Los Angeles County, the work has not stopped,” Gascon said in a post on Twitter.
“My main focus has been and always will be keeping us safe and creating a fairer justice system for everyone,” he said. “I remain strongly committed to this project and to you.”

“DA Gascon was elected with overwhelmingly popular policies that enable restorative justice, improving a failed criminal justice system that disproportionately targets black, brown, and low-income communities and holding criminals and those who abuse their power accountable.” Los Angeles Democratic Party Chairman Mark J. Gonzalez said in a statement. “George has, and continues to, deliver on those campaign promises.”
He said the 195,783 invalid signatures were “a clear message that recalls are a waste of time and money.”
“I’ve said it before – Reversing reform in our county and our state must be a priority,” Gonzalez said. “If not, taxpayers will be on the hook every time a recall is attempted and fails. Let this be a lesson to those who want to continue down this path – don’t.”

Gascon’s opponents have repeatedly branded him soft on crime because of his progressive policies that critics say ignore victims and have allowed criminals to receive lenient sentences.
Critics have argued that Gascon’s progressive guidelines are responsible for the increase in crime and the emboldening of criminals who supposedly no longer fear strict prosecution by the DA’s office. Gascony has repeatedly denied these accusations.
