Toronto City Council appointed Rose Milczyn as councilor for Ward 1 – Etobicoke North Monday.
Her appointment is effective immediately and will run until the end of the current council term on 14 November.
The seat was declared vacant after former councilor Michael Ford won a seat representing the area in the provincial election.
On June 24 the board appointed Rosemarie Bryan to hold the seat for the remainder of the term. However, Bryan resigned hours after her appointment after some old anti-LGBTQ2S Facebook posts came to light.
The Council then restarted the process to fill the vacancy.
By law, the city council is required to fill city council vacancies when they occur more than 90 days from the next city election. Voters are due to head to the polls to elect a new council on October 24.
In a letter to the city council putting her name forward for appointment, Milczyn said she has no intention of running for the seat in the upcoming city election.
Milczyn has served as an executive assistant to a number of elected officials in Toronto and Mississauga and has spent the past 18 years in various roles in the city’s Municipal Division of Permits & Standards.
She is also the wife of former Etobicoke councilor and MPP Peter Milczyn.
A total of 17 candidates took part in the latest appointment process and the council took time to hear from each of them before making its decision on Monday.
