The incident happened around 5.30 pm. on Monday, August 15, at junction two near Wadworth, Doncaster. An eyewitness said a truck “exploded” in front of him as he drove along the road. Dan Hadfield posted on Facebook: “A tanker has just exploded in front of us on the M18. I literally watched it blow up. Absolutely terrible here.” His photo from the scene shows people standing on the road after the incident. South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene following the incident. A spokesman said: “All emergency services are at the scene with South Yorkshire Police leading the response. The road will remain closed overnight due to the seriousness of the incident and the protracted nature of the search and recovery work.” South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted about their involvement.
