The horrific incident began when police found the father’s body in a parking lot over the weekend. Locals reported witnessing a heated argument between family members and the son chasing his father with a large knife. Witnesses say the attacker shouted “Allah Akbar”, or God is great, which is traditionally associated with terrorist attacks, but have ruled the incident a family vendetta, according to news site ActuLyon. Police then followed a trail of blood to where the son, 25, had been, with indisputable evidence. Police say they struggled with the son to take him into custody. The weekend attack was carried out by a local Moroccan known to police for petty crime and drug charges. “I am deeply shocked by this horrific domestic drama that has taken place in our city. What society do we live in? How can we come to such acts?’ said the mayor of Saint-Priest, Gilles Gascon. “I would like to thank the municipal and national police for their swift intervention and the excellence of our CCTV centre.” It is not the first time that the small suburb of Lyon has been the site of such heinous crimes. In 2013, an elderly woman was found in her bathroom with her head on the floor. In 2020, another elderly woman was beaten to death by her son a few blocks away from where the latest crime took place. And in 2015, a businessman was beheaded by an employee in what was identified as an Islamic terrorist attack.
