The crash happened about 5 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Jeffery Avenue in Jackson Park, according to police. “There’s no way you haven’t seen the people in the middle of the road. And to go on like that, that’s ridiculous,” said one person who did not want to be named. Video shared with ABC7 shows the horrific crash at 70th and Jeffrey. We froze the video just before the fatal impact. A sedan was traveling southbound when it struck the four men standing in the road. “You could just hear it on the street: boom, boom, other people getting hit. I was focused on who I was in front of, the victim. The victim in front of me. ” said the witness. Several shoes were seen strewn on the pavement, showing how violent the collision was. According to police, the vehicle fled the scene. “Not only is there no respect for the law, there is no respect for life,” said community member Dr Mark Stearns. Three victims were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead, police said. Two of the victims who were killed have been identified as 27-year-old Devonta Vivetter and 25-year-old Donald Huet, according to the Cook County Coroner’s Office. “It’s sad to see our community in such devastation,” the witness added. Now, residents are calling for more to be done to stop this careless and reckless driving. “We need to have speed cameras and if they’re driving recklessly, even if you don’t hit anyone, you need to have a penalty so severe that it stops.
