At the final whistle both Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were sent off for their reaction to a handshake as everyone gathered. Harry Kane’s header deflected off Rhys James to make it 2-2 with the last attack of the game after Chelsea had twice taken the lead through Kalidou Koulibaly and Rhys James. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s shot made it 1-1 but this was a huge moment of contention as Chelsea believed Havertz had been fouled in the build-up. Spurs’ late goal to make it 2-2 was also controversial as a VAR check for a foul on Marc Cucurella by Cristian Romero (who clearly pulled his hair) was waved away and Spurs then scored. Absolute chaos. Just the way we like it in the Premier League. WATCH FULL MATCH RELAY

What we learned from Chelsea vs Tottenham
This is the Tuchel ball: Intensity throughout. Control the pace of the game. Three fluid forwards wreak havoc. This is Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Many believe they will struggle to finish in the top four this season, and they still could, but this attacking performance suggests they will cause opponents plenty of problems. Of course, defensively they need to improve and this draw will feel like a loss. Spurs’ Plan B is very dangerous: When Spurs went to a 4-2-4 formation and brought on Richarlison to partner Harry Kane up top and it worked. They drew (twice) created some great chances and this is a great option for Conte when Spurs struggle to create chances. After struggling to have any rhythm throughout the game, the switch to 4-2-4 gave them the opportunity to really keep the ball higher up the pitch. Against weaker defenses than Chelsea they will have a field day with this approach. Chaos ensues at the Battle of the Bridge 2022: From Hojbjerg’s equalizer to Chelsea’s lead when Havertz was believed to have been fouled, it was sheer chaos. Tuchel and Conte clashed on the sidelines as the benches emptied. Tuchel then ran into the touchline to celebrate Chelsea’s second goal, and then there was more pandemonium. After Romero’s hair-pulling was not penalized by VAR, Spurs scored from a 96th-minute corner to grab a point. At the final whistle Conte and Tuchel then put it on as they shook hands as a huge brawl broke out. This London derby rarely disappoints. On the pitch it was an intense spectacle and off it there were loud Battle of the Bridge. Anthony Taylor, referees will be under pressure: Chelsea will feel very difficult with a lot of decisions throughout the game, as Romero should have been sent off for roughing Cucurella and that means Spurs should not have equalised. The foul on Havertz was 50/50. Bedancourt got the ball and so did Havertz, but the referees could show that the Spurs player got a piece of the ball and the play was probably too developed to pull it back and disallow Spurs’ first goal.
Regular focus
After a slow start, Chelsea completely dictated the pace of this game and for 95 minutes it was a tactical masterclass from Thomas Tuchel. He surprised many by starting Ruben Loftus-Cheek at right wing-back, but it was a masterpiece. RLC often came inside, creating an overload in the midfield that prevented Tottenham from ever taking control of the game. With Spurs’ midfield locked down, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were left isolated and that’s never a good thing for Tottenham. However, Antonio Conte then switched to a 4-2-4 to wrestle back control of the game to help Spurs salvage a point as they got forward better and took more risks. On his return to Chelsea, Conte showed why he is one of the best.
Stars of the show
Ruben Loftus-Cheek: A surprise inclusion at right wing-back, but he not only did his job on that flank, but also came inside to create an extra man in midfield. Spurs couldn’t handle him. Kalidou Koulibaly: What a home debut for Koulibaly as he scored a beauty, started in the tackles and became a fan favorite over the course of 90 minutes. Chelsea fans are already missing Antonio Rudiger. Hugo Lloris: Some incredible saves to deny Chelsea and it proved crucial as Spurs took a point.
What’s next?
Chelsea play Leeds on Sunday 21 August, while Tottenham host Wolves on Saturday 20 August.

Huge moment of controversy as Havertz went down before it but nothing was given. Then everything starts on the sidelines. Pandemonium. Just chaos as Conte and Tuchel go at it just before the drinks break. Spurs look much better after the 4-2-4 system. Conte feels it on the sidelines. Tottenham dominate. Water service interruption! This gives us a breather after this intense start. It’s all Chelsea now. The home fans love it as they break through their performance with songs mocking Tottenham. They are having a good time. Spurs away fans, not so much. GOLLL! GOLLL! This gets the dual target treatment. Wowza. Kalidou Koulibaly with a stunning volley from a corner on his home debut in the Premier League. What a moment for Koulibaly celebrating with Thomas Tuchel on the sidelines. Absolute scenes. WELCOME TO COULIBALI BRIDGE! He takes the corner perfectly on the volley and gives Chelsea the lead. #CFC 📺: @USA_Network & @Telemundo #MyPLMorning | #CHETOT pic.twitter.com/uaggSkz1Iw — NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) August 14, 2022 Almost a great goal from Chelsea! Kante spooked Sterling and his back heel found Havertz who thought he had scored. However, Hugo Lloris with a fine save low with his foot. What attitude is that. Chelsea are completely dictating the pace of this game now, but Tottenham are very compact and there isn’t much space for Mount, Havertz and Sterling to operate. Marc Cucurella sees the ball a lot. Great cross into the box from Kante, but it goes wide of Raheem Sterling who was lurking on the edge of the six yard box. What a start to this game. The pace is incredible. There’s no way they can keep going like this, right? Here are my pre-launch thoughts. Yes, it’s so hot here the camera started to swell during filming. It is a caustic. 🔵⚪️🔥 Chelsea. Tottenham. Kane then finds Shawn but his shot is blocked. Good start from Spurs. START: What an atmosphere here. The teams are out, the flames are…
