First responders shut down Highway 33 Sunday afternoon after a single vehicle incident. UPDATE: 3:02 p.m DriveBC reports that Highway 33 is closed in both directions following an accident that happened earlier Sunday afternoon. Witnesses report that a fifth-wheel trailer appeared to have flipped onto its side at the eight-mile hairpin turn. According to DriveBC, an assessment is underway and a detour is in place. A new update is expected later Sunday afternoon. This story will be updated as more information becomes available. ORIGINAL: 2:34 p.m Highway 33 near the eight-mile hairpin turnoff was blocked Sunday afternoon as emergency crews responded to a crash in the area. Allister Hadden, who was driving near the incident at about 1pm, said a fifth-wheel trailer appeared to have flipped on its side. He said the collision appears to have involved a second vehicle. Firefighters, ambulances and police rushed to the scene. Hadden said first responders closed the road and diverted traffic around the incident using Goudie Street and Cardinal Creek Road. “On both ends they had fire trucks and personnel backing up traffic,” Hadden said.
