Armenian authorities ordered an evacuation of the country’s capital, Yerevan, after a widespread bomb threat on Sunday.
The bomb threat came hours after an explosion rocked a downtown market, killing at least one person. Armenian media reports that the city has received bomb threats against all of the city’s metro lines, major military and civilian installations, shopping malls, the city’s zoo and Saint Grigor Lusavorich Church.
City police ordered widespread evacuations following the reported threats.
It is not clear if the explosion at the Surmalu market earlier on Sunday is related to the threats. The affected building was used to house fireworks, but officials have not said if that caused the explosion.
