Here’s the deal… the one-time 2010s boy band recently reunited to release new music — and one of their fan favorites to release is called “PARALYZED,” which has been leaked before, but it was never officially included on an album. Now, they’re saying they’re actually going to do it … and they’re teasing fans with when and under what circumstances they’ll do it. We are so happy to see that everyone around the world can now enjoy all of our music. But the real question. How badly do you want us to release PARALYZED?🙋♂️🙋🏼🙋♀️ — Big Time Rush (@bigtimerush) August 13, 2022 @bigtimerush On Saturday, they tweeted… “So happy to see that everyone around the world can now enjoy all of our music. But the real question. How badly do you want us to release PARALYZED?” They encouraged their fans to trend for “PARALYZED” before putting it out… but so far they haven’t. The track is only on Sound Cloud (unofficially named). If you listen to it and read the lyrics… it’s a pretty simple, seemingly innocuous song about a girl who has boys stunned and frozen, AKA paralyzed, by how attractive she is. Essentially, they are beaten … but they play to the paralyzed corner. They even stutter some of the words they sing, and that’s where things get problematic. Getty
Beyonce replaces Lyric on ‘Renaissance’ album after Ableist backlash
Some argue that the song in general is off topic and offensive to paraplegics — and that’s where Bey and Liz come in… with accusations of racism. Get on the “Lizzo and Beyonce” trend right now and you’ll see all the talk going on. Basically, some are saying that those who took issue with female artists using the word “s***” in their songs and asked for it to be removed should do the same for BTR. #PARALYZED is currently trending as Big Time Rush fans are asking them to release this song. I don’t see the same white disabled influencers calling them out for ableist language like they did with Lizzo and Beyonce. As a black female wheelchair user, I’m not surprised. pic.twitter.com/elDTD32aW5 — Ola Ojewumi (@Olas_Truth) August 13, 2022 @Olas_Truth The argument boils down to this… some in the ableist community and/or their allies are actually just racist — because they made a big stink about 2 black women innocently using the term — which was popular and in regular use before since the 2010s, honestly — but when a bunch of white/white passerby dudes are more on the nose … there seem to be crickets in terms of outrage. Not everyone’s buying it, though — because, yes, it’s very judgmental and draws a lot of conclusions based on … nothing more than perceived reactions on Twitter, which is kind of silly. The point…some people see a double standard between Lizzo/Beyonce and Big Time Rush — and are apparently mad that there isn’t more of a push to get BTR to change or drop their song altogether. Whether or not this double standard is actually true is in the eye of the beholder. Another day in the bird app. 🙄
