UPDATE: On Sunday afternoon, the OPP said the deceased driver of the northbound car was Myroslav Baran, 49, of Toronto. OPP investigators who continue to investigate the causes of the crash will be assisted by an autopsy of the deceased, which will be conducted in the near future. ORIGINAL STORY: A wrong-way driver crashed into a truck pulling a travel trailer and was killed in a serious two-vehicle crash on the 400 freeway early this morning. Police say a southbound truck and trailer were hit by a northbound car in the southbound lanes of the busy highway. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck was taken to an area hospital by paramedics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash. The incident happened at about 1:30 am. on Highway 400 between Vasey Road and Highway 12 in Tay Township. Southern Georgia Bay OPP officers responded to the incident along with Tay Township firefighters and Simcoe County paramedics. The 400 freeway was closed for several hours before reopening this morning at approximately 5:45 am. The southbound lanes, however, are still closed. Police expect them to reopen at 11:30 a.m The investigation into the causes of the crash is being carried out by members of the Technical Traffic Department of the OPP Central Region.
