Guardians vs Blue Jays betting preview
Starting pitchers
Shane Bieber (7-6, 3.21 ERA): Bieber has been a major factor in a resurgent Cleveland starting rotation. Along with Triston McKenzie and Cal Quantrill, Bieber has wins in his last three starts. In his most recent outing, the 27-year-old right-hander gave up no runs on four hits and struck out eight in seven innings. The start before that he allowed two runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks, going six innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight. Kevin Gausman (8-8, 2.91 ERA): The 31-year-old righty was named MLB Player of the Week, and it’s easy to see why. Gausman had two outings that week and struck out in both. In his most recent start last Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, he allowed six hits in six innings and struck out five.

Perform line analysis
Toronto snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday and could be poised for its second straight win on Sunday. The score of the first match was 8-0, with the second 2-1. Sunday’s final must be somewhere in the middle. Both starting pitchers have met once this season. On May 7, Bieber had his roughest outing, going just 3 1-3 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits. Gausman went 6 1-3 innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out five. It was arguably Bieber’s worst performance of his career. He has faced the Blue Jays three more times and allowed six runs on 10 total hits. In those three other games, he has 25 strikeouts against four walks. This game should come down to offenses and who can get to Bieber or Gausman first. Toronto has struggled lately. The team is second in batting average at .263, but over the last two weeks, the batting average is .237. They are fifth in runs and RBIs in the majors, but the Blue Jays have scored just two runs in 17 innings and have 40 runs in 11 games. Cleveland is eighth in batting average but 16th in runs and RBI. One player who should make an impact is MVP favorite Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He is currently on a 22-game hitting streak and has a .264 average against the Guardians, with 14 hits and six runs. Bieber isn’t going to light up like he did the first time he faced the Blue Jays, but Gausman should be more effective and have the edge against Cleveland’s starter. Prediction: Blue Jays -1.5 (+148 at BetRivers) Covers MLB betting analysis
Over/Under analysis
The Under has struck out both times in this series – which is almost unheard of in the batter-friendly Rogers Centre. With both starting pitchers performing the way they have, there’s no reason to believe the 7.5 Under won’t strike again. Bieber and Gausman have been stingy with runs lately. Bieber has allowed just three in his last 20 innings. Meanwhile, Gausman has a 14-game scoreless streak and has allowed 10 runs in four appearances in July. The bullpen is a concern for both teams, however. The five starting relievers for the Guardians have surrendered 91 runs on the season — with the bullpen sporting a 3.81 ERA. The first five Blue Jays have given up 88 runs and have a 3.97 ERA. It doesn’t help that Tim Mayza is on the 15-day injured list. If Bieber and Gausman can each go six to seven innings, the Under should be safe. Prediction: Under 7.5 (-110 at WynnBet)
The best bet
Kevin Gausman has been hot lately, being especially adept at striking out other batters. In his last two games, Gausman has struck out five and 10 batters. In his four starts before that, the righty struck out 25 in 17 2-3 innings. Cleveland leads the majors in fewest hits, but still averages 6.9 whiffs per game. When Gausman faced them in May, he struck out five. The way he’s pitching, getting five hits against the Guardians shouldn’t be a problem. Prop Kevin Gausman Pick: Over 4.5 Hits (-160 on DraftKings)
