Jamie Carragher believes Spurs will want to beat Chelsea and stake their claim to being the best team in London. Spurs have been transformed since the arrival of Italian manager Antonio Conte, who orchestrated the team’s return to the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League last season. The north London side will be aiming to overtake Chelsea as the capital’s best team. The Blues are currently the World Champions after winning the FIFA Club World Cup last year. Jamie Carragher believes we will learn a lot about Spurs during the game at Stamford Bridge Former Liverpool defender Carragher said the game between the two London clubs will show a lot for Spurs as he believes they need to improve their record at Stamford Bridge. Spurs have won just one of their previous 37 games at the ground in all competitions, drawing 12 times and losing over 24 games. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I think we’re going to see a lot of what Spurs are today and I don’t mean that in terms of the result. Just mention how many times they’ve won here, it’s embarrassing. Manager Antonio Conte helped Tottenham secure the Champions League spots last season “Two top teams in London and to come here and win just once in the Premier League era, Antonio Conte has to change that. “If you look at the record last season against Manchester City and Liverpool, really big results. “But in terms of challenging the top teams and talking about Spurs this season and what they’ve brought, I actually think it might bring Chelsea a bit. The retired defender believes Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea will want to prove a point against Spurs and show they are still the top team in London. He said: “Considering what Chelsea have won in the past, they are still world champions, believing Spurs can take their mantle as the top team in London. “I think Chelsea will want to answer a few people today.” Karen Carney believes Chelsea are no stronger than they were last season Former Chelsea player Karen Carney shares her concerns about the club, believing they are no stronger than last season and that they still have work to do in the transfer market. He said: “Given the turmoil, I still don’t think they are any stronger. I think it’s only one area – centre-forward. Until they fix this situation, I think they will still be in the same place season after season. “Mason Mount gets 11, last season Jorginho got seven. I don’t think those are two stats that will win you the Premier League. “I don’t think they are any stronger at the moment but it will be interesting to see where they are at the end of the window.” Graeme Souness has suggested that Spurs will be in for a good season in the Premier League However, Graeme Souness believes Spurs have closed the gap on Chelsea and the teams are now level. The former manager believes that Conte has developed the squad at Spurs and that they will be one of the top clubs this season. He said: “I think they are pretty even but I would go more towards Spurs at the moment. I really like their manager. I think Tuchel is a very good manager, he’s proven that in his career, but I think it’s only up and up for Spurs. I think they have a manager who pushes the players to the point of fighting with them, which is exactly how it should be. He knows where that line is. I think they have signed some very good players. I think Spurs are very different from now on under Conte. I think this time, whoever has made the decisions to bring in players, at the moment, two games in, they seem to have signed very good players. “The proof will be in the pudding at the end of the season. I think the Spurs will have a very good year. “I don’t think they’re going to win it, I think they’re going to give anybody a game wherever they play. Because this manager understands them. He demands to be in it all the time.’
