The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust issued a rare post-match statement following the humiliating 4-0 defeat by Erik ten Hag’s side at Brentford on Saturday. In a statement published on their website, MUST called the club’s defeat at Brentford a “humiliation”: “What we saw tonight is a disgrace – no, a humiliation – for Manchester United fans. “And yet in many ways it was no surprise. It feels like the culmination of a long-term journey. The Manchester United Supports Trust issued a statement following the 4-0 defeat by Brentford Despite the Ten Hag’s side failing to find their footing so far this season following back-to-back Premier League defeats, the Trust have placed the blame for the club’s decline squarely on the presiding Glazer family. “We MUST hold the owners of the Club primarily responsible for this new low in our decade of decline. The group was originally formed in 1998 to protest against Ruport Mudoch’s planned takeover of the club, and has since grown into the largest group of its kind in the UK. The statement condemned the Glazer family for their role in the club’s “decades of decline” MUST support United fans to have greater democratic participation in the management of the club In the years following the purchase of United by the Glazer family in 2005, MUST turned its attention to seeking a more democratic model of fan participation in the club’s management, arguing that United would adopt the 50+1 model seen in the Bundesliga where clubs are required to retain at least 50% plus one share of their voting rights. In their statement, they MUST demand further “urgent and radical” changes be made to the club: “On behalf of Manchester United fans everywhere, we demand urgent and radical change. And we as fans – all of us – have to stick together. The unity of the fans, with one voice aimed at the owners and the club, is needed more than ever at this time.” Read MUST’s full statement below:
