The Weasel Creek fire, located in the southeast corner of the province near the East Kootenay community of Roosville, is burning 1,087 hectares on the Canadian side of the border. It is one of six listed as a “Wildfire of Note” on the agency’s website. The agency says the fire’s projected growth to the east and northeast could present a challenge for firefighters and aerial support working to contain the blaze. He took to Twitter to explain that higher wind speeds increase fire activity and wind conditions can change the direction of spread. He says the wind also reduces the moisture content in the fuel, making the fuel very susceptible to ignition. “We anticipate significant growth on the northeast side of this fire in the coming days,” the agency said on its website.
