Photo: Snowbasin Resort/AP South Salt Lake resident Wendi Melling was just walking out the door when she heard the noise, which she described as a “loud, deep humming sound” followed by a few seconds of humming. “It sounded similar to sonic booms I’ve heard before, followed by a brief occurrence of a sound similar to low thunder,” he said. “That noise that followed the explosion was maybe 3-4 seconds.” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox tweeted that his office confirmed it was not related to seismic activity or military installations. The National Weather Service office in Salt Lake City wrote in a tweet that the lightning detection mapper likely picked up the glow of the meteor’s trail.
