Mings, 29, is set to start alongside £26million Diego Carlos, replacing Ezri Konsha in Steven Gerrard’s defence. Mings lost the captaincy to John McGinn before the start of the campaign and was subsequently benched for last weekend’s disappointing 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth. The England international also had a scan on a thigh problem this week. But Villa boss Gerrard praised Mings’ response to those setbacks ahead of the game against Everton at Villa Park today. “Tyrone have trained really well in the last few days,” Gerrard said during Friday’s press conference. “I had three or four different conversations with him earlier this week checking on his health and making sure we did the scan and (found out) the result. “But I’m happy that he trained in the last few days and made himself available for the game. “We’re not going to give anything away in terms of our squad selection, but he’s available for selection and he’s trained well in the last few days, that’s all I can say about that.” Gerrard will be hoping Mings can help Villa return to winning ways after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat at the Vitality Stadium on the opening weekend.
