Witnesses said a car plowed into pedestrians outside the Intoxicology Department bar and restaurant on West Second Street, where an all-day benefit was underway for the families of those killed in last week’s deadly Nescopeck fire. The car then fled. Separately, Luzerne County Coroner Frank Hacken confirmed he was called to a scene in Nescopeck Saturday night, but would not confirm if the two incidents are related. According to our news gathering partners at Eyewitness News WBRE/WYOU, Geisinger Danville confirmed to the station that 13 people are in their care and on probation. The incident took place shortly after 6pm. As of 10:30 p.m. there was still a heavy police presence in the area and police have yet to make any official statement about the incident. The Department of Toxicology issued the following statement on their Facebook page: “Today was an absolute tragedy. We will be closed until further notice. Please respect our privacy as we grieve and try to process the events that occurred. Thanks.” Please visit timeleader.com for updates as they become available.
