The Arlington Police Department reported Saturday that a driver, with a passenger in his car, veered off the road and struck the restaurant at about 6:45 p.m. of Friday. Video obtained by CBS News shows flames and smoke billowing from the Four Courts Irish Pub, located in Arlington’s Courthouse neighborhood.
On Saturday, police raised the number of injured from 14 to 15, confirming that a total of nine people were treated. Two of them were still in critical condition and a third was in serious condition. The other six were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including the driver and passenger, police said. Six other people were treated and released at the scene Friday. After Arlington County Fire Department crews extinguished the blaze, engineers determined the building was “structurally sound, but not re-occupied,” the fire department said.
The cause of the crash remains under “active investigation” as “detectives continue to review evidence and speak with witnesses to determine the events leading up to the crash,” police revealed Saturday. “Please keep all those injured in your thoughts and prayers,” Ireland’s Four Courts pub tweeted on Friday. “Thank you @ArlingtonVaPD and @ArlingtonVaFD for their quick response. We are devastated.” At the scene where a vehicle crashed into a restaurant in Arlington, Virginia. August 12, 2022. Mira Hougen/LOCAL NEWS X /TMX
