ABC News broke a bombshell story Friday claiming to have obtained a copy of the Bureau’s recently completed forensic analysis report … which looked at all aspects of the fatal crash in a broader investigation to see if criminal charges are warranted. According to ABC, citing part of the FBI report, the feds determined that the revolver in question — a single-action .45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta — could not have been fired without someone pulling the trigger .. .a determination was made after a random discharge test. It’s not clear if they did this test with the exact same gun that Alec used, or with a separate but identical one — but what the FBI notes in its reports is … that the gun, when working properly, will not release bullet and primer at the same time as simply fighting with the hammer alone. Play ABC News video content That’s what Alec said he was doing when the shooting happened. You’ll recall… in an interview with ABC, he claimed that all he had done was pull the hammer back and put it on camera while Halina guided him through the placement. When they were done, he dropped the hammer … and said he was shot without pulling the trigger. The rest, of course, is history. Well, that makes no sense to FBI officials. Their report, according to ABC, notes that they placed the hammer at different angles and positions to see if they could fire it without pulling the trigger … but they say they couldn’t. The only thing the hammer COULD do when flushed and then hit directly on its own (without pulling the trigger) was to detonate the primer. Now, this conclusion doesn’t necessarily mean Alec is still in hot water — again, we don’t know if the tests they did here were with his gun or something else… it’s entirely possible the revolver he used that day. , in fact, malfunction and that tells the truth. One of the things they’re still waiting for, according to an official statement from the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, are phone records from Alec. He had said a few months ago that he was cooperating and giving those files to local law enforcement in NY (so they could send them to NM) — but it sounds like someone might be dragging his feet. Once that is done, the DA can have a review once and for all … with their own findings, the FBI’s findings, as well as any accompanying documentation.
