Everton’s first away game of the new season at Aston Villa is today’s UK lunchtime televised competition.
Frank Lampard is resisting any temptation to play forward, with Rondon on the bench despite returning from suspension and Dele not starting for the second leg, leaving Gray, McNeil and Gordon to form the attack.
New signings Onana and Vinagre are on the bench, where there is only one youngster from the Academy: Stanley Mills. Alan is not included due to a “minor knock”. Out injured are Townsend, Mina, Calvert-Lewin and Gomes.
Start: 12:30pm, Saturday 13 August 2022

Wow – Rondon on the bench. That must hurt, the guy can’t even make the team as the only striker on the team!
Can’t say I’m happy we’re playing 550 again…

Who is actually the fake nine. if Gordon again it would be too fake
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:34:30
That forward 3 was rubbish last week at home. Why should they be otherwise far away. Shocking team selection by Lampard.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:36:39
I thought rondon was still suspended?
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:37:03
Let’s see if Cole’s work with Gordon pays dividends. There’s something to be said for sticking with a group. We should support the manager on this.

Ian. Perhaps he is thinking of Villa’s defense not as tight as Chelsea’s. Change at half time he thinks
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:40:29
David. You dreamed it.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:41:10
Ha ha I thought I had accidentally posted for a moment there. The name popped.
David #4 – New here I think? Welcome if so, and where are you out of interest. My dad was David, but I know you’re not him!
Rondon available. Suspended only one week – not sure why.

Same idea as last week, but it didn’t work, and here we go again. It worried me last year when he picked the same team for away games that had worked at home… but now he’s picking the same formation that didn’t work at home, and using it on the road.

No striker again?
It gets reincarnated 1998/99 lol
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:43:51
At least we have Onana and Mills to come on in the second half, plus Rondon and Alli if we’re desperate. I just hope there are no more injuries.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:44:16
Ian. You’re right in some respects, but the manager doesn’t have much of a choice. Possibly Alli is at the top, but to be fair he looks woefully off the pace. As for Rondon please. Probably one of the worst strikers I have seen at the club. And that says something. Make a point now to be honest. But I had to put not 1 but 2 strikers.

We need Gray and McNeill to play much better. If they do, then this can be an effective arrangement.

post 12. Are you Clint Eastwood (man with no name)
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:47:35
Kim (8), Rondon was suspended for three games after being sent off against Brentford, served two games at the end of last season and one last week against Chelsea.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:47:55
The team must always play as well as possible in the right position. If Rondon is the only forward then he should play.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:49:23
How many times does this manager need before he recognizes a duff line. Obviously we went for a draw which is about the limit of our hopes these days. There will be changes but only when we are left behind!
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:52:28
Hi Kim, great last name
From Cornwall but currently halfway there, I’m pretty sure I’m not your dad 😂
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:52:49
Ian Rondon is lucky to be on the bench! The guy can’t handle the pace from the start. His only chance is to come late if necessary. Coyb
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:53:41
Last season’s goals:
Gordon – 4 goals Gray – 5 goals Mac Neil – 0 goals Doucouret – 2 goals Iwobi – 2 goals Mikolenko – 1 goal Patterson – 0 goals Tarkovsky – 1 goal Coaty – 4 goals Holgate – 2 goals
Not exactly promising.

Is Rondon on the bench a message to the board?
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:56:04
I thought we were toothless up front last week and I was surprised he would do the same.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:56:39
Rondon is god awful. I would play Pickford there before him.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:59:39
Brian 14. Nice. You will need to log out and then log back in. As someone suggested. Andy Meighan by the way Brian.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:59:49
We will win this.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 11:59:52
Without being negative already, I bloody hate this formation. I think it’s here to stay because Thelwell loves it.
Sure we should be playing 4/3/3 like everyone else in the bloody league, I take 5 on the back against the top 6 teams but not against everyone else. I just hope I’m wrong but I can see Villa beating us 2-0 today.
Posted 13/08/2022 at 12:01:54
Then there will be complaints that we don’t play Messi, Neymar and Benzema. Hold the whining until we play for good! We don’t have many options ahead of us and it’s not the manager’s fault…the board etc maybe but not the manager. Let’s see how the game plays out. We’ve never replaced Lukaku, but it is what it is, so let’s leave them behind. Very unlucky to miss out on DCL again, but the midfielders need to get stronger, especially the forwards.
