Emergency services are at the scene as firefighters battle to contain the blaze. At least three large grain fields have been completely destroyed and the fire is dangerously close to homes and large farm buildings. The fire started in fields behind Earls Way on the edge of the village shortly after 3pm. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service say 25 acres of reeds have been affected as well as the surrounding fence and tree. Six fire engines, including the Incident Support Unit, were called in from Baschurch, Ellesmere, Minsterley, Much Wenlock, Telford and Wem and the extinguishing operation is still ongoing. It is the latest in a crop of agricultural and other blazes that have swept through Shropshire in recent days. Fire crews from Hodnet, Prees, Shrewsbury and Telford were rushed to Albrighton to a fire in woodland and hedgerows. 999 calls were made at 1.45pm and it took two hours to bring the fire under control. Station manger Phil Davies said it was difficult to gain access to fight the fast-spreading blaze and praised dedicated crews who prevented the fire from reaching the house. Five crews in the south of the county were called to the blaze in Lydbury North near Bishop’s Castle shortly after 4pm. It was brought under control in an hour but crews remained at the scene and extinguished the damaged machine. Earlier today fire crews tackled two separate fires in Lilleshall. One in Nursery Lane involved what Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said were multiple fire sites in a 40m by fivem field. It was brought under control at 2 p.m. The other at Church Lane involved 15 meters of fence and 80 meters of grass. Both started shortly after 13:00 and were brought under control by 14:00. At 1.30pm, firefighters from Wellington took half an hour to bring the 10m by 10m straw fire under control.
