A scorned wife took out a full-page ad in her local paper, publicly shaming her husband for being a ‘dirty cheater’. The woman, identified only as Jenny, expressed her anger in the August 12 edition of the Australian newspaper Mackay and Whitsunday Life. “Dear Steve, I hope you are happy with her,” read the ad, which was published in large font and all caps. “Now the whole town will know what a dirty swindler you are. From Jenny. PS I purchased this ad using your credit card.” The paper – which is read by more than 50,000 people in the tropical tourist area that sits next to the Great Barrier Reef – has been inundated with calls from curious locals wanting further information on the small-town scandal. The editors eventually decided to run the ad for free, saying it was illegal to charge Steve’s account without his consent. They added: “We do NOT know who Steve is, but he was obviously very, very bad.” The newspaper is published for local people in the Mackay and Whitsundays region.
