A keen aerialist captured video of the moment the jet skidded past the group of sunbathers, flying just meters above their heads before touching down on the runway. The runway at Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport in Skiathos is very close to the beach, with locals and tourists alike coming to enjoy the summer days nearby. In the video, posted to YouTube by aviation account GreatFlyer on Friday (August 5), a beachgoer can be heard shouting ‘Holy s***’ while a man with a camera can be seen jumping and thrashing as the jet passes. After he passes, several on the beach laugh nervously. The aircraft involved was an Airbus A321neo operated by Wizz Air. Approaches to coastal airports from the sea are common in the Mediterranean, but several aviation enthusiasts noticed that this approach appeared much lower to the ground than usual. “The pilot aimed low and aimed very well, impressive and dangerous!” commented Paul Morley. “Unbelievable catch. It was extremely low!” said Dominica Aviation. The jet flew shockingly low over the beach (YouTube/GreatFlyer) Others pointed out that planes and tourists should not be able to enter the landing zone to watch. “These people should not stay there, in the danger zone. The police should be there just to avoid such gatherings,” said one. The Independent has contacted Wizz Air for comment.
