Actress Anne Heche, who last week crashed her car into a Los Angeles home, is not expected to survive injuries sustained in the crash and subsequent vehicle fire, her family said in a statement through a spokesperson Thursday the evening. “Unfortunately, as a result of her accident, Anne Heche suffered severe anoxic brain damage and remains in a coma, in critical condition,” said the statement, which was shared with the Washington Post. “He is not expected to survive.” The statement added that Heche is being kept alive on life support to determine if any of her organs are viable for donation. The spokesman told The Post that Heche is “brain dead.” “Anna had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle on accepting what you love,” the statement added. “She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and greatly missed for her light.” Heche, 53, was hospitalized last Friday after driving her Mini Cooper into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, causing both the vehicle and the home to burst into flames. It took nearly 60 firefighters more than an hour to put out the fire. Police are investigating the possibility that Hetse was driving under the influence. An initial test of Heche’s blood found drugs in her system, Officer Tony Im, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, told The Post. But a second test is being conducted to see if those substances were present because of the medical treatment, he added. Heche rose to fame after appearing on the soap opera “Another World” that started in the 1980s. She later starred in films such as “Donnie Brasco,” “Six Days, Seven Nights” and “Volcano” and was known for her 3½-year relationship with Ellen DeGeneres in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Before the accident last Friday morning, Heche had bought a wig at a salon, whose owner told the Los Angeles Times she was in good spirits and did not appear drunk. TMZ reported that Heche fell into an apartment garage before careening into the street, citing a video that was not time-stamped. Surveillance footage from another home showed a blue Mini Cooper speeding down a residential street minutes before the crash was reported. Heche was pulled from the car with serious burns, the Times reported. A representative told news outlets days later that the actress had slipped into a coma. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the resident of the home, who “narrowly escaped physical harm” but lost many of her possessions, according to the fundraiser’s statement. In their statement Thursday night, Hetse’s family thanked the staff at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital, as well as “everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anna’s recovery.”
