More than 30 people were injured at a Legoland park in southern Germany on Thursday when two roller coaster cars collided on a track, prompting the park’s owners to close the ride and evacuate the premises. The accident happened at the ‘Feuerdrache’, or ‘Fire Dragon’ attraction, around 1:45 p.m. local time, Legoland Germany said in a statement. A roller coaster car had stopped in front of the station entrance — but a second car did not stop and ended up crashing into the first, the statement said. It was unclear why the second car failed to stop, Legoland said, adding that the ride would be closed “for the time being” but that the park would reopen on Friday. Police said a criminal investigation had been launched, Britain’s Sky News reported. The accident was the second roller coaster accident in Germany in as many weeks. Last week, a 57-year-old woman was killed after slipping from her seat on a roller coaster at Wild & Freizeitpark Klotten. He fell 26 feet as the car rolled around a bend, Germany’s Deutsche Welle reported. At the Legoland resort, about an hour outside Munich, a total of 38 passengers were in the two cars that collided and 31 suffered minor injuries, treated at the scene by doctors and paramedics. Of those, 14 were sent to a hospital for further observation, the park said. “We want to thank all the emergency personnel who are showing great commitment [the] site today and we want to wish everyone involved a speedy recovery,” Legoland Germany Divisional Manager Manuela Stone said in a statement to The Post. Fire Dragon is a medieval themed ride with castle-like structures, stained glass windows and fake stone arches. The cars that carry the passengers are green and shaped like a dragon. “Riding on the back of a fire-breathing dragon, you see what life was like in a medieval castle, meeting brave knights and beautiful maidens,” reads a description of the ride on the Legoland resort website. “But be careful — don’t be intimidated by the LEGO® dragon guarding the treasure chambers! Passing through a gate into the open, you reach the final stretch of the ride that will rock you as you race along this roller coaster.” The attraction was open to solo riders aged 8 and over or accompanying passengers aged 6 and over. The ride had a top speed of 35 mph and a maximum height of 52 feet, according to the Dark Ride Database, a website for information about various theme park attractions.
